Sebastian Hanel

Johann Sebastian Hanel is a Berlin-based photographer with an eclectic portfolio of stunning cinematic landscapes and gritty portraits.

He treks to forgotten corners of Europe and backwater USA in a VW van loaded with equipment ranging from 10"x8" land cameras to home made lighting rigs, a veritable one man film crew, often screeching to a halt in transit from one location to the next to snap a roadside curiosity or absurdly juxtaposed billboard.

This collection of images reflects Sebastian's own eccentricity and love of cinematography, influenced by Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrik, he reveals a world of fantasy and escapism, model-like scenery often to be found in full technicolour reality right under our noses.
